Imray charting rescued from waters

Not even a year after announcing the end of production of its famous nautical charts (¹), Imray is back with a new partner. English publishers Imray and Austrian freytag & berndt consider the creation of a joint company to ensure the future of marine charts (²).

Imray Laurie Norie & Wilson Ltd (Imray), the privately-owned British publisher of nautical books and charts for pleasure boating, and the Austrian specialist in terrestrial cartography freytag & berndt (FB) have signed a letter of intent with a view to creating a common company. This collaboration will guarantee the availability and sustainability of Imray charts and nautical publication.

The new common company, FB Imray Laurie Norie & Wilson GmbH — FB Imray - will have its headquarters in Vienna. Stanfords-Bookharbour will remain the UK's leading distributor of Imray charts and books. The combination of Imray's maritime expertise and in -depth cartographic knowledge of Freytag & Berndt will strengthen and expand the Imray portfolio.

The new organization is scheduled for summer, more information must be communicated in due time. The emphasis will remain on the Production of marine charts and high quality publications under the Imray brand, while developing new products adapted to the needs of boaters and by advancing digital navigation solutions.

There will be no interruption of service : charts and paper and digital publications will continue to be available as before, which will reassure users and allow them to continue to navigate with confidence.. The transition to the new common company will take place transparently, with the same products and the same concern for quality as those on which the boaters have been able to count.

Other information on the development of this company will be communicated in the coming months, in particular details on product developments, operational plans and the main stages of business evolution. Imray and freytag & Berndt assure their customers that their commitment to the service of the maritime community remains unchanged.

As far as we are concerned, This allows our partner Geogarage to continue to maintain your portfolio of Imray cards, the latest updates of the 1st half of which 2025 are available on this page.
