Everything increases ! The 5 Apple has made the decision of an overall increase of its App Store pricing list about near 20%. So this applies to apps and some in-app purchases., such as services provided by the developers themselves, including cartography. This doesn't seem to be about auto-renewing subscription in-app purchases, like the "Navionics Plus" option in Boating, in example.
This will go unnoticed at first for so-called "free" applications, but whose full use requires in-app purchases, premium subscription type, add-ons, etc,. This is the case for a number of navigation applications.
For the others, whose selling prices are clearly displayed, the shower is a bit cold. Here are some apps in alphabetical order (prices are rounded for clarity) :
Name | Sale price € TTC | In-app purchases € TTC | Total without mapping |
Avalon Offshore | 60 € | 26 €/year (premium weather subscription) | 60 € + 26 €/year |
Boating (Navionics charts) | for free 10 days | Navionics Plus annual/subs. rate according to chart region of your choice | /// |
C-Map charts | for free | 49 € Annual subscription | 49 € /year |
qtVlm | for free | 48 € Full version | 48 € |
TZ-iBoat | for free | 10 €/month Premium weather subscription + 10 € AIS option | 10 € + 10 € / month |
Weather4D Lite | 20 € | 46 € High resolution weather subscription | 20 € + 46 €/year |
Weather4D Routing | 47 € | 46 € High resolution weather subscription | 40 € + 46 €/year |
Weather4D R&N | 65 € | 46 € High resolution weather subscription | 65 € + 46 €/year |
Of course, reading prices is not enough to compare applications that have very different characteristics, both in ergonomics, the provided features, and especially the purpose. It is also necessary to have a look closely on the models of charting proposed and their rates. Finally, it should be considered that the prices charged in the Apple mobile environment (just like Google) are still much lower than those for computers, both for applications and charting.

Thank you Francis for your vigilance and communication
Like many companies Apple is riding an inflationary wave.
But by setting the bar to 20% they don't go with the back of the spoon.
Even if IPAD apps will remain a good deal to limit your hardware investment for a complete result of navigation needs, it will still be a cost of use to integrate. Not sure that everyone will be able to keep the apps in FULL OPTIONS for a long time..
