Navionics Boating : Garmin updates charts and pricing… on the rise !

As you might expect, Garmin cleaned up the offer and pricing of Navionics Boating charts at the beginning of the year 2024.

No more large areas (like the Mediterranean) up to 35 € ! Several zones are redefined and subscription prices are aligned uniformly to 50 € for the most part, with two exceptions.

Cutting

Among the areas removed, we find the Mediterranean (from Gibraltar to the Black Sea) and the vast Europe region, which embraced all of Western Europe. Also gone is South America, which included the Caribbean.

• Western Europe is still divided into two regions : British Isles (with Netherlands) and Central & West Europe (with Azores, Madeira, Canaria). The French and English coasts of the English Channel are included in these two areas. So 100 € for these two areas, which is still very reasonable.

• Northern Europe is covered by three zones : Norway (with Spitsbergen), Baltic entrance with Southern Scandinavia and Northern Germany, and Baltic Sea. So 200 € total.

• The Mediterranean is still included in the Central region & West Europe up to and including Corsica and Sardinia. But the Global Mediterranean, which extends all the way to the Canary Islands, does not include the coasts of Croatia and Montenegro ! It will cost you 50 € more to get there, which passes the cost to 100 € (instead of current 35 € in 2023). It's frankly petty.

The division of Western Europe into 2024

• The Americas is now divided into three regions : North America, Central America (with the Caribbean, up to and including Brazil) and South America (from Uruguay to Chile inclusive). So 150 € for all three zones.

Prices 2024

Widespread rise and uniformity : Subscriptions are at 50 €, except the entrance to the Baltic at 100 € and Greenland-Iceland at 150 €.

At Garmin, we don't mess around with the results !

  1. Thank you for your warnings. It's a bit of a jungle...!!
I apparently have the version 20.1.2 from Navionics boating on my iPad.
However, unlike the screenshots above, I do not have access to the “Central and Western Europe” module.. It is not in the list of purchasable modules when I am on my iPad ( same on my iPhone) . I have all the other modules available for purchase but just not the one that interests me… Why ? Do you have an idea ?
For the moment I am still working with the old division with the “Europe” Map which will only work until May 1st. 2024 on my iPad .
Will the possibility of purchasing this module only appear when my old module no longer works? ?

  2. Thank you for this summary. I'll add that Garmin has also enacted a new constraint on the Boating version, which must be greater than or equal to v20 to be eligible to subscribe to a new region. To me, It's very penalizing, and borderline adulterated selling because I bought a region with my Android phone and everything went smoothly, then I also wanted to install the cards on my old iPad which has an iOS v13 version and does not allow you to install Boating v20. So I'm having a good time !
